Resolved Question: Is it possible to develop an allergy to dairy products over time?

I'm 27 ad have never had any food allergies, now I think I may be lactose intolerant, is this possible? more

Resolved Question: Help I think I have Crohn's Disease?!?

I'm only 15 and been perfectly healthy. Then I started to have regular stool and blood dripping when I passed gas on the toilet. (I no its too much info but I really need help) Now I'm worried that I have Crohn's Disease. :( I'm lactose intolerant and have been since I was about 8. That's my only allergy. I'm really scared because I don't want to changed my life style like what people do when they suffer from Crohn's Disease. I have cramping in my stomach (not localized to my right half) but after I use the bathroom I'm fine. I've lost about 3 lbs but I just started swim team. And its strange, if I feel like I have to use the bathroom but I have no time and go to swim team, when I come home my stool is regular and normal. Anyways, I'm pretty worried. Do you think I have Crohn's Disease? I'm going to the doctors tomorrow for test. more

Voting Question: Blood test says I'm allergic to egg whites but not yolks and wheat. Never had a reaction. Can it be true?

After feeling out of shape and down, I went to see a naturopath/nutritionist to guide me on my quest for better health. She immediately put me on a liver cleanse that consisted only of fruits, veggies, organic chicken, and organic turkey. No sugar, no caffeine, no carbonated drinks, and no fatty foods. I've had stomach problems from eating fatty, processed foods in large quantities. I admit the drive thru was my best friend. Since the cleanse, I've started feeling much better having eliminated the processed foods and sugars. When I began my cleanse, she drew blood and sent it in for allergy testing. The test came back and the IGE indicated I'm allergic to egg whites, but not yolks, and wheat. I've eaten these foods all my life with no reaction. In my youth, I was healthy and did not experience the stomach issues BUT I am lactose intolerant. She has me scared that I will never be able to eat eggs (they are in pasta and baked goods) or wheat products again. I just don't get it. Can someone explain? more

Resolved Question: Itching after drinking milk or having milk products, why?

I get itchy after I drink milk or eat anything with even a little bit of milk in it (chocolate, cheese, whey protein bars, etc.) I don't get a rash or break out anywhere though, and I itch mostly on parts of my body with hair...including ears legs and head...even inside my nose and on my face. I also itch on the soles of my feet or palms of my hands. It's bizarre. It's not like a bug bite itch, though...it goes away once I scratch the area..then might come back again later or I'll feel it elsewhere. The itching eventually stops about 16 hours after I eat a food that bothers me. It's very very hard to avoid eating foods with milk or milk protein. (Imagine no cheese, no milk, no ice cream....) It's awful. I have read up on milk allergies, but I have none of those symptoms. I used to be lactose intolerant, but this is not the same problem as that. So, I don't know what the problem is. more

Voting Question: Is lactose-free milk, dairy free?

I'm allergic to dairy products (it's only come on recently, due to an asthma problem) and though I'm aware that people who are lactose intolerant are people who cannot digest the lactose due to their missing an enzyme(?) but I'm unsure as to whether dairy allergies and lactose allergies are the same. i just want to know: Can I drink lactose free milk, or does it count as dairy? more

Resolved Question: What are some good soy/tofu products out there? (dairy allergy)?

I just discovered that I have a dairy allergy & can have absolutely no milk or dairy products. If you are wondering, it isn't the same as being lactose intolerant. (I thought they were the same thing at first, but they are very different.) Evidently with a dairy allergy you can get rashes & break out into hives just like any other bad allergy. So in any case, now I have to find a way to replace my dairy stuff with soy & tofu products. Can anyone suggest some brand names for me? Also, can anyone recommend good menu items to order when I'm out at a restaurant? I know salads are usually safe, but what about the entrees? I think I like the Tofutti brand, but there's sooo many out there & I want to get a good soy milk if possible! I'm asking this in the vegetarian/vegan section because well... a lot of y'all don't eat any dairy products & try to avoid them, so you can probably help me more! more

Resolved Question: Hypochondriac or diabetes?

I'm always paranoid about being sick, so please help me separate fact from fiction. I get a lot of UTI's. I just had one about 2 or so months ago and I was taking cranberry pills to help. I went to the doctor first to make sure I had one (before taking anything) and I did. The cranberry pills worked. Or so I thought. I'm not taking them anymore and I still keep having to pee all of the time. It was better for about a month but I still have to urinate a lot. If my boyfriend moves in the slightest at night and it wakes me up, I HAVE to pee before I go back to sleep. I am urinating an awful lot, but like I said it doesn't burn or anything and everything about it is normal, except the fact that I have to go a million times per day. I also am ravenously hungry most of the time and I get weird food cravings. (Like right now I am SO hungry for donuts and milk but I'm lactose intolerant.) At first I thought I had an iron deficiency, because I was always craving meat and I'm always tired and my mom has an iron deficiency, but I've been taking supplements and they aren't helping. I'm not overweight, actually I lost a few pounds. When I went to the doc for my UTI, I weighed 101 pounds. I don't eat a lot of sugar and I try to eat healthy (I am so scared of getting fat but I don't go crazy with it) and I go for walks a few times a week. Every once in a good while I'll do yoga, but that's the extent of my exercise. Lately when my boyfriend and I get errr... intimate, I get tired so quickly. I never used to get so tired so fast and I don't understand why. I get out of the house more than I used to and our sex life hasn't changed at all, maybe a little more if anything. I'm ALWAYS tired, but it doesn't get in the way of things. I have a job and cleaning up my apartment after my BF and I seems to be a full time job in itself v.v The thing that worries me the most is my vision. I've been having problems for a while now and a few years ago I got glasses. The only thing is they don't seem to help too much with the blurriness. My vision has gotten worse, but I've kept it to myself because I am practically crazy lol and no one wants to hear me complain that my eyes are going bad at the tender age of 18. I never thought I could have diabetes but I was watching Scrubs yesterday and it was the episode where Turk was diagnosed with diabetes because he kept having to pee all of the time. So I looked up symptoms and one of them was the vision thing and it kind of freaked me out because my eyes have been bothering me for a while. I get headaches a lot around my eyes, but I think they are just from my sinuses or allergies or something. I want to go to the doctor and get checked but she already thinks I'm a nut (alternative treatments make me crazy in her book) so I wanted to get some opinions first. Oh yeah. And I know I'm crazy lol you don't have to tell me that or be rude. I just want some second opinions... Diabetes V. Hypochondria. more

Resolved Question: When is it ok to give eggs to a baby?

My son is 10 months old and I wanna know when is it ok to give eggs to him? My husband has a history of food allergies, but eggs are not one of them. It's mostly shellfish, some nuts, and he's lactose intolerant. I don't want to run the risk of my son having food allergies. I have read that egg whites are ok but I still haven't given him any of them. Advice?hmmn, if I do have it backwards about the white/yolk part, then why did the sheets my dr gave me told me not to give my son egg noodles with yolk? It said to get the yolk-free ones. Said whites were ok? Strange... more

Resolved Question: I may be lactose intolerant and wondering about the testing for it?

I have recently been tested for various allergies because I was diagnosed with irritable bowel and they want to rule out other possibilities. My doctor ordered me not to have any dairy for two weeks to see if the symtoms I was experiencing improved. It's been 9 days now and they have. I know there is testing that can be done to get diagnosed with lactose intolerance. Is the 2 weeks of no lactose the only test the doctor will have me do, or may I have to be "officially" tested with one of the other tests? more

Voting Question: Hives on my face from an allergy reaction.?

I am allergic to dairy products (as well as being lactose intolerant) and when I eat or drink them, my face breaks out in hives. Dairy products are like my favorite thing in the world!!! I can take lactaid for the stomach ache and digestion, but is there anything I can do to prevent the hives? I just want a blizzard!! Lol, but seriously, is there anything I can do? more

Resolved Question: Why can't I digest milk fat?

I've always thought I was lactose intolerant, however, recently I'm thinking its more an allergy to milk fat. I can't drink any variety of milk, but I can have non-fat milk as an ingredient in my food. Cream is the absolute worst..any kind; sour, ice, whipped...it all makes me miserable. When I was a baby, I couldn't drink any formula, had to have powdered non-fat milk...(can't stand the stuff now) Please don't suggest I see a metabolic dr or some such, that's not possible right now. I'm asking here because I know a lot of experts frequent this site and I can't find the info I'm looking for online. Please help me, this is a serious issue. more

Resolved Question: Anyone else want to complain?

My stupid allergies are making my nose stuffy and then runny and then stuffy again. My voice doesn't sound anything like normal. I had surgery on Tuesday and my foot is killing me right now. To top that off, I can't take the pain killers because they make me throw up. To make everything just so much better, I'm allergic to dairy. Not JUST lactose intolerant like we thought, but allergic to dairy. I CAN'T HAVE ICE CREAM!!!!! I want to cry. Phew! So go ahead and complain. :) more

Resolved Question: Do i have an alergy to gluten?

im a 13yr old girl. well, for the past 5 months i have been clearing my throat out for like 30 min every night. but in the past month, ive started doing it in the daytime to. now i have wheezing and liquid constantly in my throat. i went to several doctors. the first 1 said mild bronchitis and didn't give me any meds. but when my chest x-rays came back, the radiologist said they didn't see anything. then my pediatrician said it was nothing to worry about. then yesterday, i went to the urgent care, they said it was being caused by my stomach, not my lungs or sinuses. (my mom works at a country club so this girls not a Professional or anything) then, a girl at my moms work said that it could be a food Allergy. she said maybe gluten. and i eat bagels every morning basically. oh also, i'm horribly lactose intolerant, i throw up if i eat lactose. but if i eat ice cream or something, i take a lactaid pill which is supposed to aid in digestion of lactose and it does. but the girl at her work said that you can still get allergy's even if you take a pill to help with digestion. I know that someone already answered this question before, but i would like a little more assurance more

Voting Question: what is the difference between lactose intolerance and an allergy to dairy?

i am a 23yr old male and ive been having some trouble figuring out exactly what my problem is. i have been told by friends before that lactose intolerance is not something that affects adults, only small children. whenever i eat something dairy i.e. cheese, milk, ice cream, dressings etc i get very annoying reactions. my stomach starts to gurgle a lot, i sometimes get bad stomach aches, and inevitably it leads to bathroom time to put it lightly. i don't get sick per say but this does happen every time i forget and have dairy. i do know one of my sisters has the same problem as i do but im still confused as to what it truly is. am i lactose intolerant as an adult or am i allergic to dairy? more

Resolved Question: How to make meals for kids with food allergies?

Does anyone else have children who are allergic to certain foods? My oldest is lactose intolerant (severe) and my youngest is allergic to peanuts and treenuts. All the meals we make are dairy-free and nut-free, but now I'm wondering if its fair to my younger children to always have to eat non-dairy foods because the oldest can't. Would it be fair to make two separate meals, one with dairy, one without (my husband is also lactose intolerant)? What would you do?ramseyca, do you work for silk? more

Resolved Question: Weight Loss Aides and Food Allergies?

Well my "Freshman 15" really did turn into the new "Freshman 40" and it is absolutely unbearable anymore! So I've been looking into some of the weight loss aids, mostly Alli to help me get my weight back under control. But I am lactose intolerant and cannot go anywhere near fruit! And I feel like a lot of the meals in those kinds of programs have these kinds of products in them. Has anyone tried Alli? Liked it? Stuck with it? Would I be able to have many meal options even without dairy and fruits? Did it work?Yes I know its a weird one (the fruit) but seriously, as soon as I come into contact with it I swell up or break out in hives. I dont even touch the produce bags at the grocery store anymore! But thats not even the weirdest in my family who is allergic to everything... my mother is allergic to the sun! She has to wear at least spf 50 everyday and take medication if she is going out in the sun for more than 30 minutes! Just accept the fruit thing lolAnd I positively hate peanut butter and chocolate! (This includes all peanut related things) more

Resolved Question: Stomach problems! Am I the only one?

So I've had intestinal problems since I was 9, and I have bloating, gas, diarhea from almost every meal when I have really bad cycles where I just can't eat anything without pain. On good days, I only get gas from every meal. Mom won't take me to the doctor, and I'm not lactose intolerant or have a food allergy. I've tried probiotics and Imodium. Nothing. And stress makes it much worse. more

Resolved Question: Why is milk like acid in my mouth?

I used to be lactose intolerant when I was a baby but I grew out of it...sort of. Now if I have milk, this morning I had a bowl of cereal, and the milk literally made my mouth raw and itchy. Then the cereal rubbing on my gums actually cuts my gums and then the cut is inflamed from the milk. It's like milk acts as an acid in my mouth. Why? Is it just an allergy? more

Voting Question: Can anyone lactose intolerant answer this short quiz for my tech coursework?

1) At what age did you find out that you were lactose intolerant? 2) Is it difficult to find products which clearly state whether or not they are suitable for people with a lactose intolerance? 3) How bad would you say your allergy was? 4) Do you know if your intolerance has run within the family? 5) Do you find it more or less expensive buying the lactose free products? 6) Is it hard when you go out for a meal? 7) What do you have to do if you have a reaction? Thank you so much for doing this, i couldn't find anyone. more

Resolved Question: Lactose Intolerant...Any Advice?

When I was younger dairy never bothered me, but in the last couple years I can only have the smallest serving of ice cream and even that is sometimes too much. Can anyone give advice on how to make my body handle dairy better? Please don't give soy suggestions (allergies). Please don't tell me about what lactose intolerance is...I am aware of the nutritional and physiological reasons. more

Resolved Question: Are allergy to dairy and lactose intolerance the same thing?

Well my baby has always showed symptoms of being very uncomfortable from her belly whenever I fed her (not always).. I saw a pediatric gastroenterologist today and he gave me meds for acid reflux and told me to stop drinking milk and dairy products, and stop eating spicy foods. (I only breastfeed) So, since he told me to stop drinking milk, does it mean she could be allergic to dairy or intolerant? Are they the same??? more

Resolved Question: Is this a Craving?! Starting so soon?

I'm about 9 weeks along right now and for the past week and a half I have wanted soft serve vanilla ice cream. Then last night and today I've wanted it so bad I just started crying because my mom told me to stop whining that its not good for me. I'm lactose intolerant but I don't care!! I just want the ice cream so bad I'll deal with a few cramps and feeling a bit gassy lol. Not like that'll be anything different anyway... Am I just being a pain? Can cravings start this soon? And can they last a full week before getting so bad I cry? I'm just 20 so I really don't have much experience with this... Please help! =) Btw... lactose intolerance is NOT an allergy. A milk product allergy is very different from lactose intolerance. It will NOT hurt the baby if I have lactose, just make me uncomfortable temporarily. more

Resolved Question: Unexplained nausea. Any ideas?

For the past two years, I have had several vague symptoms nearly everyday. I get headaches very frequently and I am now at the point where I have some level of nausea at ALL times. I also experience chest pain and heart palpitations occasionally. I've seen several different doctors and have had several different tests done, including blood work, stomach tests (for ulcers, acid reflux, etc.), and many others. We've ruled out several different causes, and my general physician is at a loss. The nausea is usually at its worst whenever I have just eaten. I'm going to be tested for food allergies soon, and I am going to pick up lactose pills tomorrow, because I believe I may be lactose intolerant. However, I've tried many different treatments already and nothing has helped, so I'm not very hopeful. This is kind of a long shot, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any ideas as to what this could be. more

Voting Question: Is it safe or effective to use the Isagenix cleanse to help you when you are sick?

I have been sick for a few days and I don't know precisely what I have, but I suspect it's from overloading my body with fast food and soda while being on a medication that is hard on my liver and kidneys. I also have pet rats and mice so I've been breathing in ammonia from their cages. Will the Isagenix cleanse help get rid of these toxins, or am I making it worse by straining my body with a cleanse? Also, how am I supposed to eat while I'm on the cleanse? I'm not doing it to lose weight and I don't have the Isagenix snacks, so I would just be eating normal food. Will it go right through me and be a waste of food, or will it undo the cleansing? I'm avoiding greasy foods and sugar because I get incredibly nauseated after eating them, but at the same time I don't really have fresh fruits or vegetables at the moment either... my current options for eating (I have many strong food allergies so my options are limited: gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant, food dyes bother me, and the list goes on) are rice pasta with spaghetti sauce, cheese, frozen broccoli with cheese, canned beets, and I think we have some canned spinach. more

Resolved Question: Need help with food allergies?

I have severe food allergies. I need some ideas for meals. I am getting tired of eating the same thing over and over. I am allergic to beef, chicken and pork. I also and lactose intolerant so all dairy products are out. I also can't have nuts. I can have fish and pastas and things like that. more

Resolved Question: This is about milk allergies?

I am wondering what is the difference between the symptoms of lactose intolerance and milk allergies..I heard these two are different..I am asking because I was always told that im lactose intolerant..The most that happened to me if I would drink milk was congestion and bathroom problems...Lately if I have too much dairy I will have trouble breathing..Would breathing problems be lactose intolerance or dairy allergy? more

Resolved Question: Is there a test my pediatrian can do to see if my son has problems digesting lactose? He's 3 weeks old.?

I'm breastfeeding however, my son is a big eatter and recently my production went down because of a slight fever I'm working on getting it back up, and so far so good however I've had to use formula to suppliment a couple of times when I wasn't enough to fill him up The first time we gave him formula, he threw up and we didn't think too much of it because we figured he probably just ate too much or too fast Then the second time we had to give him formula, he threw up again... Now, I know allergies to milk are genetic and both his father and maternal grandfather are lactose-intolerant so I was wondering if, since the formula does contain lactose, if there was a way to have him tested at his young age?btw after we made this realization we picked up a new lactose free type of formula but we haven't had to use it yet more

Resolved Question: Is this lactose intolerance or milk allergy?

My daughter just turned one. i have been trying to wean her and she has been throwing up recently and has been having diahrrea. i have been trying the mixing formula with whole milk approach. the thing is, is that she usually only throws up in the car about 3 hours after having a bottle and it smells so sour. so i decided i was gonna do a test on her, and just give her formula. well, she had her bday party, and ate some ice cream cake and threw up about 1.5 hours later. the next day, i gave her only formula, and she didn't throw up in her carseat or anywhere! but the thing is is that the formula she's on is similac advance, a milk based formula..so could she be lactose intolerant or have a milk allergy?she's going to the dr tomorrow..i just want your opinion before i get theirs more

Resolved Question: Why do people believe that mixes are always healthier?

Seriously.. why do they think that mixing automatically cancells out health problems? Even funnier is when they claim that mixes are healthier than purebreds.. but then also use the argument that purebreds were all once mixes too! My purebred Crested is nearly 5 years old and has no major health issues.. he has a few food intolerances, but its not uncommon for dogs to be lactose intolerant, or to have corn allergies. He does also have some line breeding.. a "designer/hybrid" dog person would call him "inbred" My cousin's spaniel mix has to stick to a strict diet to prevent urinary issues. She has had surgury once when she was only a few years old to remove HUGE bladder stones. Growing up, we had a Lab mix who was diagnosed with severe hip displasia before he was 5 years old.. he did live to be about 17, but we were on edge the entire time thinking his hips were going to get worse and we'd have to put him down. He had a terrible temperment, and could not go up or down steps for about the last 10 years of his life! Someone I knew of on a dog forum had a medium sized mixed breed that needed surgury on both knees for severe luxating patella.. a condition rarely seen in medium to large dogs, its mostly limited to small breeds. We once found a lab mix.. we thought it had been lost for a while, the thing was very thin. When the owner couldnt be found, we took the dog to the vet.. turns out that it had several major problems.. including a problem with properly digesting nutrients, and severe muscle dystrophy.. doesnt matter how much the dog was fed, it would have starved to death anyways because of the problems it had.. we had to euthanize it. A friend of mine has a Crested/Schnauzer mix that is allergic to grass.. the poor dog cant go outside without breaking out. My ex MIL had a collie mix who was deaf and had severe arthritis. She also had a shepherd mix who had to be euthanized for kidney and liver failure.. there was no logical explanation as to why the liver and kidneys failed. Not all purebreds are healthy either, expecially those that come from untested bloodlines.. but in my experience, I've seen more serious health issues with mixes than with purebreds. What health problems have you seen with mixes?suggested category.. Food & Drink > Beer, Wine & Spiritsnot all purebreds are from mixing breeds.. many are from just selectivly breeding the domestic dog as it was known.. you have to establish breeds before you can mix! Properly bred dogs are also selectivly bred to breed away from health issues.. why dont people seem to get that? As for temperment issues.. I know many purebreds with lovely temperments, I only know of a few with issues. Had a husky mix who I was told was basically "Bi-polar".. she was unstable at times. My ex MIL had several mixes with TERRIBLE temperments Our lab mix had a horrible temperment more

Voting Question: Can Pink Eye be caused by Lactose Intolerance?

Basically, the other day me and two of my friends had a contest to see who could drink a half gallon of Skim Milk the fastest. Basically, I am mildly lactose intolerant and knew this going into the competition (not smart, I know). I spent the next 5 hours of my life on the toilet which was expected, but towards the end of the night my left eye became pretty red which was slightly worrisome. The next morning I had what appeared to be Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis) in BOTH my eyes. I read that Pink Eye can sometimes be caused by allergies, but I assumed this to mean plant / animal allergians that fly around in the air, not food allergies. Is it possible that my Pink Eye was caused by drinking too much milk, or is it just a coincidence that one event so closely followed the other? Thanks! Isaac more

Resolved Question: Other moms with milk intolerant children?

So I'm starting to think maybe my son is lactose intolerant, or has a milk protein allergy. He was weaned onto whole milk at 10.5 months and had the yellow loose stools which I was told by the doctor was normal for the first 2 weeks or so while he got used to it. But he's now 13 months and still has the pale yellow stools and its not really formed, its usually all smushed up. He doesn't have a rash or anything like that and never seems to be in pain. I've started giving him enfagrow for 12 months and up and he's now starting to get a little colour back, and his poop is looking normal. Now enfagrow does say on the package lactose free, but its made from whole milk powder. Is there a way a doctor could diagnose this through a blood test? I don't want to go in just for a guess from him. (My doctor is very good BTW) From you moms that have children with an intolerance to lactose or milk protein, what were your child symptoms? He was fully breastfed before, which I never drank milk (I hate the stuff myself) so he wouldn't have even gotten any through breast milk.ah and I forgot to add when he was on the milk he pooped about 4 times a day, when he was breastfed it was once a day. Now that he's on enfagrow he back to once a day. more

Resolved Question: Am i lactose intolerant? Do i have a wheat allergy?

Every day for the last few years i've had extreme gas problems. Especially around a late noon. I have to try my hardest to keep from farting out loud. I don't eat excessive amounts of milk products, and i've never noticed a link between them. But i do eat wheat and flour products every day. How do i tell what it is? Resolved Question: Lactose and Wheat Allergy! Help please?

Hi, my boyfriend is allergic to wheat and milk products. Everytime he eats anything with either of these things he gets rashes on the back on his neck. The doctor told him that he is lactose and wheat intolerant. He had to change his eating habits completely. I thought it could celiac disease, but in that the person is allergic to gluten which is present in oats and soy milk as well. He seems to have to have no problem oats or soy milk. I looked up on google about the proteins present and common in milk and wheat. I guess he is not celiac. I am not sure. Could anyone help me figure out if he has celiac disease or not... he is frustrated most of the times that he cant eat what he wants.. if you have any questions about his diet. let me know .. more

Resolved Question: Would you rather be lactose intolerant or have a peanut allergy?

i love peanuts and dairy, i couldnt stand to be allergic to either!!! more

Resolved Question: I'm just developing allergies left and right-- help?!?

So I was born with a peanut allergy, which is no big deal after having it your whole life. However, in the past 6 months, my amount of allergies have SKYROCKETED, and I'm finding new ones each day. I'm vegetarian and have been for a couple of years now, because I can't digest meat and it causes problems for me (that, and, animal rights own everything else). So you would think I could eat soy, right? Milk, perhaps? Well, I used to. I've been lactose intolerant since I was young but milk never posed TOO much a problem, but alas my parents had me drink soy milk. unfortunately, one of my allergies developed is soy. My question is how do you develop an allergy to something you've had your whole life? And my allergies don't stop there: I have oral allergy syndrome, and I'm allergic to grass and trees, so therefore my tendency to be allergic to fruits and vegetables is quite high.. and I've discovered a banana, pineapple, pea, apple, and corn allergy with that. So what can I do? Do I just have to suffer along with this? I went to an allergist, and the tests confirmed all these allergies and more-- plus all pine nuts and such. No one has any answers as to WHY these allergies may be developing. I feel like a small little tadpole in an ocean. Help?He told me to continue using Zyrtec once a day (for seasonal allergies) to see if it'd do anything, but it hasn't. Unfortunately, skim milk induces the worst acid reflux for me. If it's not one problem, it's another. more

Resolved Question: Could somebody have celiac disease and be allergic to wheat at the same time?

Okay, if somebody gets and itchy rash, constipation, SEVERE joint pain (on all joints and knuckles), and gets muscle aches after consuming wheat products its this usually a symptom of celiac disease/gluten intolerance or a wheat allergy? Also, could somebody have both a true immune system wheat allergy as well as celiac disease? What about being lactose intolerant and allergic to milk at the same time? more

Resolved Question: Please read... is about my son.........?

so I started him out on breast milk when he was in the hospital. he was preemie. once I took him home I was so tired didn't have much help and started pumping less, eventually quitting completely. He would never latch on either, just scream. I put him on enfamil enfacare for preemies and he did fine. when he was about a month old he started getting flim and acidy reflux. he still has it to this day and he is almost 5 months old. i started feeing him cereal and baby food after christmas and he seemed to be doing fine ready and all doctor told us his spitting up would get better as he got older and it's only getting worse... he said flim is from smoke on my clothes, but i smoke outside said acid reflux and spitting up he'll grow out of... well he hasn't yet. so i told wicc nurse about spittin up she said try soy so i am trying now. i heard of RA for spitting up babies and acid reflux but was told i have to try soy first.... so far he isn't doing much better or any different.... so i'm going to take away his cereal and baby food just to see if that might be the problem. he spits up mostly during his burps and after feedings.. no matter how i lay him or how much or less i feed him. what do you think could be causing the acid reflux, flim, and constant spittin up??? its not too much spit up just enough to keep changin him.... and did your child do good on soy for spittin up? ... also he was never diagnosed with milk allergies or lactose intolerant they told me to try soy just for spitting up... makes sense huh more

Resolved Question: Is it possible that I'm allergic to bananas?

I never had problems with bananas before but the last two times I've eaten a banana my tongue has felt itchy and very slightly swollen. When I read up on it, I found out that most people who are allergic to bananas also have problems with latex, avocado, kiwi and chestnuts, but I eat and use all of those very often and I've never had any problems... is it possible that I'm allergic to bananas suddenly or do you think it's a fluke thing? Also, I'm pregnant right now... do you think it could possibly just be some strange side-effect of pregnancy? It's also worth mentioning that I am milk intolerant, but not lactose intolerant... I also get stomach aches when I eat cashews and my hands swell up if I touch yams. I'm not allergic to any other foods that I know of, but I do have some pretty bad contact allergies (like hives, itchiness, sneezing and so forth) to anything with fur, feathers, dust, mold or pollen. more

Resolved Question: Stomach ache after drinking milk?

For the past few years, I have rarely drank milk. I used to drink it all the time and just kind of got sick of it. From then on, I would maybe drink a glass every month or so. Well a few weeks ago, I started drinking it again. About 5-10 minutes after I finish a glass I will feel moderate belly pains, and sometimes feel like I need to use the restroom because of it. It's not crippling, but it does hurt. I don't feel the need to throw up or anything like that. I don't have any family history of any kind of lactose intolerance or allergies. So, is it possible to be only a little bit lactose intolerant? I know a few people who are intolerant who cannot drink a dixie cup of regular milk without spending the rest of the night in living hell. I have never had these symptoms with cheese, ice cream, yogurts, or any other dairy products. Any and all answers are appreciated, thank you. -Kat. more

Resolved Question: What can you eat when you are allergic to milk, garlic, and beef?

I have never had any noticeable reactions to any of these foods, but a few years ago I had an allergy test and found out I was allergic to them. I sometimes suffer from mild cases of asthma (often after I eat) and have had gastrointestinal problems all my life. Along with that, I was lactose intolerant as a baby. Although I guess at one point my parents decided I could handle milk products again. Anyway, along with these issues I have already mentioned, I have recently learned that food allergies can contribute to acne. So I am trying to cut these foods out of my diet. I am finding that it's REALLY HARD to cut out milk AND garlic from my diet. I have never been a fan of beef, so it is not that big of an issue. Does anyone have any advice for me or recipes that don't include any of these foods? I'm struggling!I wanted to add that almost everything pre-made has either milk or garlic in it. Most sauces especially. more

Resolved Question: Suggestions what is causing stomach issues.?

Ok, so my best friend is having some stomach issues. She says that every-time she eats (particularly bad foods) that she gets nauseous and tired. And the same thing when she drinks anything that is not water. She drinks A LOT of Starbucks. I say- common sense - STOP eating all the bad foods! Then she tells me that yesterday she was coughing and she threw up a little without feeling like she was going to previously. I obviously think that she needs to majorly readjust her eating habits. So, basically what I am asking is... What's going on in her body that is making her feel like this? Possibly food allergy? Gall bladder? I want to help, but I don't know how. Additional comments: She is lactose intolerant but RARELY eats dairy. more

Resolved Question: 1 yr. old with food allergies..anyone have any experience?

I asked this same question in N&B and got no answers...Maybe someone over here can help me! :) My 1 yr. old has been suffering off & on from diarrhea & vomitting since before Christmas. Finally this past Saturday I took him to Urgent Care determined to get some answers. I was sick of different peditricians telling me he had the stomach virus. So this time around this ped. was pretty sure he has some sort of food allergy or possibly lactose intolerant esp. since my husband had childhood food allergies. So she referred us to a pediatric allergist which he sees this Thursday. So does anyone have any experience with children with food allergies? Did your child see a allergist? What kind of test did they run to determine your childs allergies? I'm just really curious as I have zero experience with this so anything you can tell me on the topic would be greatly appreciated! more
