Ok this is embarrassing for me which is why I have not gone to the doctor yet. I laying in my bed this morning and i saw a bug on my top...naturally i flicked it off cos i freaked. I thought nothing of it at first. then I saw another one. I noticed last few weeks my head has been really itchy. I instantly thought lice. But my hair is always so clean as I have OCD and bath twice sometimes even 3 times a day. So I don't get how I can get them. But thing is I have bites all over my body. Like arms legs everywhere. And these things are able to live off the hair. They are too big for lice maybe even. they are maybe 3mm brown and have like there legs are at the front. they cannot be squashed either water is the only thing that killed them. I say its lice cos I combed my hair through there were loads. But then i found them on my clothes too. And its freaking me out basically...what is this? if its not lice. im trying some special shampoo now just incase it is but what can I do? and please dont posts any nasty comments =(Thanks guys. I dont think its bed bugs. I did at first because of the bites. But I mean they seem to fat bodied to be whese things. I searched up pics of lice they do look more like lice than bed bugs. I am not going to lie. I am a teenager, with head lice. Brilliant I know. My aunt has this idea that by using the above mentioned product, from the year 2000 then the nits wont have a resistance, and so will be all killed. Me and my Dad are wondering if this is wise. I don't want my hair falling off or something. And I am slightly worried that when I was researching it, Phenothrin had a wikipedia article about it killing cats. when i had nits there was this really good treatment that killed them and it had vodka, oil and tea tree in but 1) i think i am missing something maybe vingar and 2) i cant remember how much of what was needed. if anyone knows this treament the please say coz at the school im working at there is head lice going around and i had them once before and i really really dont want them again! also if anyone knows another good treatment like that one then do tell as long as it is not Mayo in. thank you bye bye more

Two weeks ago my daughter came home from nursery with Headlice. I used two treatments which failed, followed by another which seemed to work great. Not only did it kill the lice but the eggs were coming away on the comb aswell. I continued the wet-combing method and found no lice, alive or dead, only eggs for four days. Then last wed I found one single live louse. The chemist was of the opinion that she had picked it up from school again and that I should re-treat. This I did, last wednesday night, and I did not and have not found a single louse from then on in the last 7 days, which led me to believe that the treatment wwas working. I know you need to check again at around a week for hatchlings, and this I was doing this evening. I found nothing, as on all other days until all of a sudden there was a huge fully grown adult on the comb! As you can imagine I could have cried! Basically I assume this means that she has picked it up from nursery yet again, as I know that it takes around a week for eggs to hatch, and then another week or more for the little critters to grow fully. Also I read that only adults go from head to head. Is this right? Can anyone with some experiencegive me any advice? I will treat again this evening to be on the safe side but I'm sure I won't find much. I just hope the little darling has not had much time to lay many eggs. And where do I stand with the nursery? Am I entitled to complain about this? It's costing me a small fortune in buying the treatment as it is the most expensive I have found, but the only one that seems to work! Also I feel so sorry for my little girl having to put up with the horrible things, and then the constant Nit-combing! I would be so grateful for any advice from other parents or anyone who knows about this stuff, I don't want to go complaining to the school until I have my facts straight. We just found hundreds of flea eggs on our male persian with a flea comb and gave him a pill to kill the fleas but were wondering if the eggs could be layed on human hair like head lice? any replies would be great thanks I am feeling really itchy just thinking about it. more

Voting Question: Tips on removing head lice?

My three year old daughter has head lice and i have been battling them for 6 months now. Every week i am putting head lice sollutions on my daughters hair and my own. I go through with a metal toothed comb, on both our hair every night with lots of conditioner. The problem is, the eggs. Where as the sollutions and going through with the nit comb remove the lice, i cant get all the eggs off my daughters hair. I have washed all bedding and toys etc, I have tried everything. It's getting stupid now, would like to be able to wash my hair and my daughters with out having to go through with a nit comb. Any tips? I have given up on head lice sollutions as they kill the lice not the eggs. I need to get the eggs out, and a three year old only stays still for so long. Bless her, she manages an hour every night, and just when i think i have got all the eggs, more appear. I am on the verge of a nervous break down lmao.Have been to the chemist and doctors and they gave me the nitty gritty head lice comb which is great, and gets the live out etc. Have spoken to the nursery who say they have told all parents but still have children showing up with head lice. It's annoying as lice have become immune to the lotions. I recall when i was a child when my mother would de-lice my hair and that evil lotion she would put in would kill everything. If only there was something out there that would kill the eggs. Oh and by the way I am in England, not sure if that makes a difference lol more

hi my sister has two cats she used to keep them in, as her first cat got run over and killed on the road. about three months ago she started letting them out in the garden and she stayed with them, they started going over the back garden fences they did not venture to far, until recentley a neibour spoted one of them on the road and by all accounts a bus nearly ran her over so she is keeping them in. she is so woried about them she says i hope they dont go all depressed on her she wants to no if she is doing the right thing. i have a cat and mine is a indoor cat i will not take the risk of lousing him on the roads please help to put her mind at rest thanks x. more

Hi,just a quick question on behalf of my mum (who is not very computer literate!) My mum just started working in childcare about 6 months ago...she has had headlice 3 times and managed to clear it with the conditioner and combing scheme.However this last time she just cant get rid of them. I am particularly keen for her to get rid of them cos she looks after my kids on saturday mornings and even though they are boys and I can rid them easy I have long hair and I got them 2 years ago of my kid and it took me ages to get rid of them. Apart from the conditioner thing,any other ideas.Someone said hair dye kills them,is this true? more

Resolved Question: Will shaving + medicated shampoo get rid of crabs?

I'm a virgin guy living in a college dorm and somehow I contracted pubic lice (aka crabs.) I'd been a little itchy in my nether region but I didn't make much of it 'till I noticed what I thought was a scab start moving. Needless to say, I panicked and plucked as many of the little buggers out as I could. When that wasn't satisfactory, I shaved all around my groin/butt and legs (I found one or two of them above my knee too.) I bought the CVS brand of medicated shampoo and applied it. I washed my bedding, all my clothes, and vacuumed my room. Is there anything else I can do aside from reapply the shampoo in a week? Do I clean my bedding again in a week after my second treatment? I'm not convinced I got all the lice because I can't see everywhere, and I couldn't really use the nit comb since I shaved. (Except my butt, kinda hard to shave/reach back there so will the medication kill those eggs too?) Thanks a bunch, this has been an awful experience. more

My eldest daughter had a case of nits before christmas & we were recommended full marks mousse from the chemist. All four of us in the house used the treatment, then we went through her hair with conditioner & a nit comb. I've just found more lice in my youngest daughters hair-we didn't nit comb her hair after the last treatment so I think she must have had eggs even though we found no lice (doesn't the mousse kill the eggs?). I have treated us all again with the full marks mousse & have nit combed us all this time, but now I have been advised to retreat us all in about a weeks time (I wasn't told this originally & it doesn't say anything on the leaflet enclosed about repeating the treatment). I'm trying to work out the best time to repeat the mousse - too soon & I miss eggs still to hatch & too late & the new lice will have layed more eggs! I have once again washed all bedding, towels, combs etc - & would really like to see the end of these once & for all! more

Resolved Question: Why the misconception about Frontline?

I have read lots of answers on here regarding questions about flea treatments. It seems as if most (not all) have obviously not read the info on Frontline. Fact: it does not go into the bloodstream killing the flea when it bites. The liquid that is placed on the cat in two places behind the head, will spread to the whole of it's body. Any flea either already on the cat, or any attaching after will die within 24 hours, having also becoming sterile - unable to fertilise eggs. In order to erradicate fleas you have to get rid of them in the environment (home) also. Frontline is excellent, but it stills requires diligent treatment around the home to completely rid the place of fleas. Once again, Frontline does not go into the cat's bloodstream, but is the best product on the market as it also kills ticks and lice, which no other product does!Thank you Fenlandfowl. I was unaware of the Stronghold product, but have since read up on it online. The only downside having to get a prescription from the vets. I purchased Frontline from Vetuk at half the usual price, no p+p delivered within 2 days. Recommended... more

Resolved Question: fish lice help?

Can i treat my tank for lice and how successful is treatment. I bought 2 fish last week and noticed tonight disc shaped things that were moving, they were quite big so could they have been there in the pet shop tank but smaller that i didnt notice it.
