Resolved Question: what are your thoughts on global warming?

The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. -- 13 times the number who authored the U.N.'s 2007 climate summary for policymakers. Joanne Simpson, the world's first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak "frankly" of her nonbelief. Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming "the worst scientific scandal in history." Norway's Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the "new religion." A group of 54 noted physicists, led by Princeton's Will Happer, is demanding the American Physical Society revise its position that the science is settled. (Both Nature and Science magazines have refused to run the physicists' open letter.) The collapse of the "consensus" has been driven by reality. The inconvenient truth is that the earth's temperatures have flat-lined since 2001, despite growing concentrations of C02. Peer-reviewed research has debunked doomsday scenarios about the polar ice caps, hurricanes, malaria, extinctions, rising oceans. A global financial crisis has politicians taking a harder look at the science that would require them to hamstring their economies to rein in carbon. more

Resolved Question: If Bush is to be arrested for war crimes?

shouldn't Clinton be too for: On June 26, 1993, Clinton bombed Baghdad in retaliation for an alleged but unproven Iraq plot to assassinate former President George Bush. Eight Iraqi civilians, including the distinguished Iraqi artist Layla al-Attar were killed in the raid, and 12 more were wounded. The most monumental of Clinton's war crimes, however, has been his policy of sanctions on Iraq, supplemented by the maintenance of intense satellite surveillance and regular bombing attacks that have often resulted in civilian casualties. UNICEF reports that in 1999 more than 1 million Iraqi children under 5 were suffering from chronic malnutrition, and some 4,000-5,000 children are dying per month beyond normal death rates from the combination of malnutrition and disease. Death from disease was greatly increased by the shortage of potable water and medicines, that has led to a 20-fold increase in malaria (among other ailments). This vicious sanctions system, causing a creeping extermination of a people, has already caused more than a million excess deaths, and it is claimed by John and Karl Mueller that Clinton's "sanctions of mass destruction" have caused "the deaths of more people in Iraq than have been slain by all so-called weapons of mass destruction [nuclear and chemical] throughout all history" (Foreign Affairs, May/June 1999). the rest of the case is here: http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/International_War_Crimes/ClintonWarCriminal_Herman.html more

Resolved Question: If god were real, shouldn't he be bought up on charges of crimes against humanity?

1. He created everything that has caused people to die a natural death, e.g. malaria, influenza, Black Death, earthquakes or floods. 2. Every time somebody commits an atrocity in his name, he does nothing to stop it, even though he has the power to do so. E.g. The Crusades, the Holocaust, 9/11, the crucifixition. where his own son died a long, painful death. 3. Many billions of people throughout history have lived in and/or have died in abject poverty. Again, he has the power to intervene but chooses not to. 4. However many billions of children who have died before or at birth. The list of crimes that he is solely responsible for is endless. Is it time he was judged (if he really exists, that is)?Typical tommyrot from the religious. They seem to suggest that god is responsible for all the good things, but not the bad things. But he is supposed to be the ultimate creator, and therefore is ultimately responsible for everything, good or bad. Someone also seems to be suggesting that satan is more powerful than god. If so, wouldn't we be better off worshiping satan, get on his good side, as it were? Yes, I'd be happy to sit in judgement of god. But then god is innocent of existing until proven otherwise. more

Voting Question: Is the "history" channel a Euro-Supremacist show?

Yesterdays's show on Alexander the "Great" (not!) was full of lies and distortions. In the first place Alexander did not defeat Porus in India but was defeated by him. At one point Porus even had his spear-point dug into Alexander's throat, but spared Alexander the final thrust, and hence his life, at the urging of of his wife, because Indians are a merciful people-alas! Thirdly, Alexander did not "grant" Porus his life and his kingdom. There was no such 'kindness" or ""charity" in the Macedonian. Consider the fact that NONE of the great religions arose in the West or in Europe. They all came about in the East-alas!.Alexander came to rob, plunder, and to seek "revenge" !.Porus was able to keep kept his throne and kingdom because he WON THE WAR, not because of some "kindness" or "charity" on the part of Alexander. Alexander was just a common bandit, a "gang-banger" , with more thugs in his "gang" than the average gang-banger. Had he run into the Huns or the Mongol armies in Asia he would have had to run back to Macedonia like a defeated dog. Alexander was never "master of all Asia" as one English commentator was crowing on TV recently. He only conquered Persia and Afghanistan. That is it! He did NOT conquer India or China, Korea or Mongolia or the 95 percent of Asia that remained untouched by his evil hand. Hardly "master of all Asia"! And finally, he did not die of "malaria" as claimed by these revisionist "historians" who are merely neo-propagandists.. He died from the wound inflicted on him by by a valiant Indian soldier! And good riddance it was for mankind! more

Resolved Question: to save mother earth, why dont we just get rid of all the humans?

of course this is ludicrous, but environmentalists have this fantasy.... what happens to poachers in africa?....they are shot on sight.... how many people die each year from malaria, because of DDT being outlawed?...when those "save the whale groups" fire upon and board whaling ships, how many children of those "evil whalers" go hungry..? how many americans have had their jobs exterminated by environmental regulations...i live on the texas coast, and yes the sea level is exactly the same as it was in the sixties, and it isn't rising.the amount of oil in the gulf exceeds that of the middle east, yet we are not allowed to get it...in the gulf more oil leaks out of the sea bed on its own,in one day, than all the oil spills in history, and the salt water literally eats every bit of it....remember the exxon valdez?.....they never refer to it now days because prince william sound is as pristine as ever...you wont find any evidence of a spill...none....why don't you libs just admit it ...you hate yourselves and humanity.... more

Resolved Question: Aren't you glad that the Environmentalists banned DDT?

Not only has there been a resurgence of malaria in recent years thanks to the Environmentalists and their War on DDT, but now bedbugs are back (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedbugs#History and http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30208436 ). Aren't you glad that the "progressive" Environmentalists are doing everything they can to turn back the great progress of the last few centuries? Aren't you glad that bedbugs and malaria are back with a vengeance? more

Resolved Question: Has malaria killed the most people EVER?

I have heard it claimed that Malaria has killed about 50% of people that ever lived. Is this true?! Resolved Question: My life is sucky these days?

I know that I am not suffering the most in the world right now, but I kinda hate my life right now. Not in a depressed-pshyco-I'm gonna turn out to be a murderer way...but It just sucks I'm a junior now, and I hate it. My grades are slipping because every one of my teachers think that I only have one class...the one that they teach...so they cram so much homework that it destorys the little social life I have. My brother had the same teachers that I have this year, and he said they were awesome and did'nt do anything in their classes work related...but now every teacher gives me a big pile of work every day. It's like "Well Good Morning...here's an assload of work" And Tuesday...work...and Wednesday...Work...and Thur... While my brother does nothing in his classes this year...or last year. He had Beach Day in his Calc class Friday...guess what I did in my math class friday...you guessed it...WORK I'm a smart kid, but I go to a really smart school. A school where kids think they are failing in a class, when they really have an 86 in the class. In every class, it's like I'm in a room full of super-brained kids...relaxed over-achievers, and it feels like I'm the only one who has to bput effort in the work i have to do...it's like they enjoy work...like their friggin' robots. THere was this" rave" on FRiday...not a drug rave, but an organized social gathering by a city youth group. Oh wow...I never knew raves were organized and advertised where police could find out. " Hey Jack( that's not my name, by the way, just an example), are you going to the rave...hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa" " Are you going to the rave...rave rave rave rave rave" NO, I CAN'T GO... I'm to busy not going to the friggin rave Don't get me wrong, I'm an honor roll student...but so is about 60% of the school..and the other 40% are about 2 points away from getting onto it. I'm in the Academic team( as if you didn't think I was a nerd already) because my parents force me. I'm not good at it because all the questions are about operas and European fine literatute...not math or history. My parents don't allow me to do sports, and my mom has to dress me every day( not clothes or stuff, but she HAS to put cover-up, lip cream, and he has to comb my hair so I look like a F*G). She DECIDED my classes for next year. "Okay, you're going to take Calc CP(even though I could take AB, she's scared of math), you're going to take Anatomy..." It just feels like she won't let me do anything except go on the play games in my room listening to Metallica. And whenever I try to do something that she doesn't like...she just says" Hormones, hormones", and walks away because she doesn't wanna hear it I don't really have a social life. All my friends are seniors, and I have no underclassmen friends. I don't know what I'm going to do when they leave for college. Plus, they're all very annoying too. If I hear another story about the differences between a Corvette and a Land Crusier...I swer to God... I work at Ace Hardware, and I'm horrible at it, and I hate the people at my shifts. I want to work with my brother on his shifts, but my boss says were understaffed on cashiers on my shifts...WE have 5 cashiers and we only need 2 on my shift. By the way, their are only 4 registers. 5-4 equals that I could friggin move to the sunday shift My grades are slipping to B's...still pretty good grades, but my Honors teachers says that I should drop to CP courses, WTF. I know I'm not a refugee in Iraq, or m family didn't die of malaria in Sudan...but I always feel that I can't feel bad about my life because some African boy has it worse. I'm also kinda worried that one of my teachers is reading this and will answer..."THis is Mr. X, I'll see you on Monday with extra homework" Whenever my mind tries to make me feel better, it always has to come up with another point to make me fell horrible...an undebatable point... ...I just don't know anymore...4 more months of school...without any days off because we missed 2 days in SEptembber due to constructuion. 56 million in taxpayers money... more

Resolved Question: I have a question in relation to American history.?

I was doing some supplemental research to some geneological history done by some of my distant relatives when I discovered that one of my ancestors was trying to make a break for California during the California Gold Rush. The question has to do with getting TO California from the east coast. My specialty is in Modern Europe and not U.S. history so a little help is needed here. Instead of trying to go cross-country to California from his home in Philadelphia, my ancestor took a ship with several other people and sailed down the east coast, around the tip of South America, and up north on the west coast. My question is this: why would someone take a ship all the way around South America to go to San Francisco, CA from the east coast when he/she could go cross-country instead. My guess would be that it was "easier" for my ancestor to go by ship than pack up everything and head out west in a covered wagon "Oregon Trail" style and have to rough it. Side note: my ancestor made it to California but died of a "tropical disease" in 1850 shortly after he arrived (he's buried there). From the research, he caught this disease on the ship he was on (I've narrowed it down to dengue fever, cholera, malaria, and dysentary but that's another question altogether). Of course, this made sense to me since I do know that very few people were successful in finding gold in CA. more

Resolved Question: Did Malaria Evolve or was it created? Why dose science show it evolved?

Man and Malaria seem to have evolved together. It is believed that most, if not all, of today's populations of human malaria may have had their origin in West Africa http://www.malariasite.com/malaria/history_parasite.htm How can Christians accept the evolution of parasites but not the evolution of man? more

Resolved Question: What do Canadians think of George W. Bush's farewell speech?

What do Canadians think of these speech excerpts and my comments to them? Excerpt #1: "Tonight I am filled with gratitude – to Vice President Cheney and members of the Administration; to Laura, who brought joy to this house and love to my life; to our wonderful daughters, Barbara and Jenna; to my parents, whose examples have provided strength for a lifetime. And above all, I thank the American people for the trust you have given me. I thank you for .... ...the prayers that have lifted my spirits." My comment: You mean the trust the Supreme Court gave you? Are you talking for me Mr. President? And as for the prayers, what about the spirits of those who weren’t privileged enough to play Golf and drink merrily and live in a mansion? Excerpt #2: "So around the world, America is promoting human liberty, human rights, and human dignity. We are standing with dissidents and young democracies, providing AIDS medicine to bring dying patients back to life, and sparing mothers and babies from malaria. And this great republic born alone in liberty is leading the world toward a new age when freedom belongs to all nations." My comment: Oh wow, so then how did Canada become a democracy? The US gave it to Canada? Was that what 52”40 or Bust Manifest Destiny was all about? Ohhh!!! On another note, now that you’re no longer president? You may want to take a little trip to Dresden, Ontario and see the abolitionist safe house for African Americans who migrated north to Canada, just a thought. Excerpt #3: "A new Medicare prescription drug benefit is bringing peace of mind to seniors and the disabled. Every taxpayer pays lower income taxes." My Comment: "I happen to know according the "http://www.ssa.gov, PAR 2007 SOSI" Medicare is in a long-term financial crisis, what peace of mind does adding more expenditure cause? You’d need higher taxes to fund it, ohhhh lower income taxes, interesting! Excerpt #4: The addicted and suffering are finding new hope through faith-based programs. Vulnerable human life is better protected. Funding for our veterans has nearly doubled. America’s air, water, and lands are measurably cleaner. And the Federal bench includes wise new members like Justice Sam Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts. My comment: What exclusive religions are these so-called faith-based programs? America’s air, water, and lands are measurably cleaner???? How on earth???? You mean because demand is down from the recession? That’s gotta be it. These new Supreme Court justices replaced legacy judges like Sandra D O’Connor, I thought you honored that woman bigtime. How you forget, Mr. President. Excerpt #5: While our Nation is safer than it was seven years ago, the gravest threat to our people remains another terrorist attack. Our enemies are patient and determined to strike again. America did nothing to seek or deserve this conflict. My comments: Don't even know where to begin. Excerpt #6: But we must reject isolationism and its companion, protectionism. Retreating behind our borders would only invite danger. In the 21st century, security and prosperity at home depend on the expansion of liberty abroad. If America does not lead the cause of freedom, that cause will not be led. My comments: Don't even know where to begin. Excerpt #7: President Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” (THIS IS THE ONLY THING BUSH SAID I AGREE WITH) To read the whole farewell speech, go to this link http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/01/post.html more

Resolved Question: Do Jews want people to think that the holocaust was the worst thing to happen in the history of mankind?

In a previous question, I compared what the blacks endured during the slave era to the holocaust of WW2. The responses I got from people who I assume were Jewish were quite passionate and denounced me for comparing African slavery to the holocaust. I’m not sure if these people are aware of how slaves were treated back then. Here’s a quick rundown; first stage, villages were invaded by armed soldiers and people were stolen from their homes. Women and girls were raped and the men beaten. They were then chained up and marched to the west coast of Africa, called the fever coast because of the endemic Yellow fever, malaria and the cholera in the water. They were kept in holding pens and given only enough food and water to survive. They were then loaded onto small fast sailing ships and brigs, crammed into the cargo hold like sardines, chained up so they wouldn’t rise up and overpower the small crew. Many more slaves were crammed in than was quite right because the ship’s crew knew that about a third of them would die during the long voyage through tropical heat. Then on arrival they were whipped and beaten if they spoke in their own language or practiced their traditions. If they tried to escape, they had their hamstrings cut. It was a very dark chapter in human history. I’m not saying the holocaust was a picnic or anything like that; I’m just quite annoyed that Jewish people would so casually dismiss the African slave era and then make out that the holocaust was by far the worst thing that any humans have ever done to other humans. But am I mistaken; do Jewish people really do this? more

Resolved Question: i need your help please thank you very much?

Can you please summarize this information in a whole paragraph? Dr. Livingstone was a Christian missionary, physician, explorer and emancipationist. Walking from the west coast to the east coast of central Africa, his exploits included incredible drama and have been documented in a plethora of literature. Often loathed by whites, he was admired by Africans, and his hatred of the slave trade was intense. David Livingstone was born in Blantyre, Scotland on March 19, 1813. He began earning a living at an early age and taught himself Latin and English and other subjects while working in a tweed factory from 6 am to 8 pm 6 days a week. He obtained a degree in medicine, nearly failing the medical exam, because he believed in using a stethoscope, contrary to his examiners’ opinion. His religious faith drew him to a career as a missionary, training at the London Missionary Society. When he stood up to preach his first sermon, he was so frightened that after he read the title, he bolted out of the church. Encouraged by friend, Robert Moffat, his first trip to South Africa began in December of 1840. The Moffats had even greater influence, in 1844 he married Robert Moffats’ daughter, Mary. Although popular among African natives, he made enemies of some of the white settlers because he learned African languages and had an unusually keen understanding and sympathy for the native cultures. In 1843, while settling the Mabotsa valley, Livingstone shot a lion, but before it died, it managed to bite and tear up his left arm, leaving it nearly useless. He used live maggots on the open wound to eat the dead flesh. Dr. Livingstone fought malaria constantly resulting in him being the first known person to use the thermometer to measure body temperature. He discovered the use of Canaan in the treatment of malaria, (but mixing it with jalap as he found that Quinine was the most constipating of drugs)- thus the Livingstone "rouser" saved many lives. Livingstone’s travels in Africa made him the first white man to see Victoria Falls, and also an esteemed visitor among the natives. According to one biographer, "the great Scotsman" added approximately one million square miles to the known portion of the globe. He received a gold medal from the London Royal Geographical Society for being the first to cross the entire African continent from west to east. He crossed the Kalahari desert reaching Lake Ngami in 1849. He discovered the Zambezi River in 1851, and eventually followed it to Victoria Falls in 1855. His Missionary Travels in South Africa (1857) is an account of that journey. He was given command of an expedition to explore the Zambezi region(1857-1863). He returned to England in 1864 and with his brother, Charles, wrote The Zambezi and It’s Tributaries (1865). In 1866, he returned to Africa to seek the source of the Nile. Remembered as an explorer, Dr. Livingstone is still more distinguished for his humanity. At the same time that slavery was taken for granted, he condemned the slave trade, and alerted his countrymen of the abhorrent practice. He hoped to abolish the slave trade by opening Africa to Christian commerce and missionary stations. While he was in "darkest" Africa, at home and in America he was feared lost or possibly dead due to lack of any communication. Sir Gordon Bennet of the New York Herald sent Henry Morton Stanley, a staff reporter, to look for the explorer and gain the "scoop" of the century. It took over a year for Stanley to find Dr. Livingstone, finding him in 1871 in the small village of Ujiji. Here, the famous phrase "Doctor Livingstone I presume" was asked by Mr. Stanley. Livingstone had suffered serious health problems, and when Stanley found him he was at one of the lowest points of his life, yet he refused to turn back, maintaining his desire to find the source of the Nile. Stanley joined him on a journey to the north end of Lake Tanganyika in 1872.. Livingstone’s health continued to worsen in the months before his death in May of 1873. His crew had gone to get supplies, and came back to find him in a kneeling position, apparently praying when he died. His death resulted in the longest funeral march in world history. His loyal followers carried his remains 1500 miles to the coast, taking five months for the journey, believing that he would want to be buried in England. ( His heart was buried in Zambia beneath a tree, where there is a memorial to this great Scotsman) Ten men died on the journey before surrendering his remains to the British Consulate at a place, Bagamoio, which literally means "lay down the burden of your heart." His body was buried at Westminster Abbey. His last journals were edited by Horace Waller in 1874. Livingstone died a pauper, yet he left a huge legacy. Resolved Question: History questions!!! Were African slaves forced to build the panama canal?

I was told that African slaves were brought in to build the Panama canal because they have a gene that makes them less prone to being infected with Malaria. Is this true?I found this info about it: Cheap labor is a form of slavery btw. http://www.cidcm.umd.edu/mar/assessment.asp?groupId=9501 ALso, I found this info about Africans are less likely to be infected with Malaria. http://www.motherjones.com/blue_marble_blog/archives/2008/07/9020_africa-dna-hiv-aids.html1. Thanks for answering my question everyone, whether or not I agree with you. 2. Cheap labor is a form of modern day slavery. Here is an article that backs me up: http://www.voanews.com/english/archive/2005-05/Millions-Live-in-Modern-Slavery.cfm?renderforprint=1&textonly=1&&TEXTMODE=1&CFID=34665616&CFTOKEN=37549881 3. Also according to the website I provided African slaves were brought in to help build the railroad, as well as an early attempt at the canal. "Black immigration into Panama dates to two separate periods. The first was during the early 19th century, when African slaves from the Antilles were brought as a labor source for the Panamanian Railroad and an early attempt at a trans-isthmus canal....The construction of the Panama Canal at the beginning of the 20th century brought another wave, which became a part of Panamanian society....North Americans exploited them as cheap labor, while Panamanians pressured them to leave"DaChickenLady; Thanks for your insight! I am open to what others say and I enjoy listening to your opinion. I do understand where you are coming from about the differences between modern day slavery and true slavery. I am aware that true slavery still exsist, such as in Darfur and it is terrible! Thanks! ;) more

Voting Question: A unique non-profit organization? ?

So I'm starting this huge project at school that will take up the course of the year and the title of it is the "IMPACT Project". The purpose of this project is to research and create a speech that will make a difference. Basically saying that even a single person can impact this world and make a difference that will change history. I'm supposed to find an organization/person that I can research on. Ideas in the classroom were about global warming, poverty, famine, water shortages, humanity, animal cruelty, AIDS, malaria, etc. I'm sure that the broad categories will lead me somewhere, but I want to find an organization that is VERY unique and fascinating because I'm going to be stuck with it for several months. An interesting example we were given by a previous student was the "One Laptop per Child" organization where people donate laptops to children of third world countries to help with education. I thought that this was veryyy cool. If any of you have any suggestions and cool organizations, regardless of category, please let me know. It will help me so much with all the brainstorming and stuff. (: Thanks. more

In my history class, we have to pick a topic on world problems. and i wanna pick global warming and pollution. And at the end of the year we have to do something that will make a difference in the world. For examples the teacher gave an example of students last year that wanted to do something with the disease of malaria in africa. THANK YOU!!!!!! oh btw here are some green tips: 1. unplug your cellphone charger when not in use' 2. when you go from red to greenlight, don't accelerate too fast, you loose a lot of gas that way. Resolved Question: Previously taken lariam... Now allergic to mosquito bites?

I travelled to Thailand in January. I took Lariam for about 5 weeks. Now I'm noticing that this summer for the first time in my life if I am bit by a mosquito the bump gets increasingly red and about the size of a nickel or quarter (in between) It will itch like usual for the first few days. The itching subsides but the large red mark remains on my skin for weeks... I'm suspecting that it might be from the Anti Malaria medication Lariam that I had taken about 6 months ago. Its not so bad that I would make a doctors appt. It doesnt really effect me I am just wondering if anyone else who HAS taken any anti malaria medications with no previous history of issues with bites except for the normal reaction... and then notices a change afterwards..? more

Resolved Question: What do you think is wrong with me?

I have just returned from a month long trip to Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. During my first week in Kuala Lumpur on my second day I had the unpleasant experience of stepping on a broken beer bottle I didn’t really pay attention to it at first till I got back close to my hotel I noticed the bleeding, I went to clean it up and saw a piece of skin in the wound which was brown and I am white this made my stomach turn a bit good thing I had my tetanus, Twinrex and typhoid shots before leaving I told my self. But then about 3-4 days later I started to feel strange it started with extreme sweating while sleeping follow cold chives, shaky hands and feet/legs and after consuming alcohol my neck would get very warm to the point where it felt like it was burning up and sweating, and when I would be in bed my mid abdomen would be in pain right across. I had sharp muscle pains in my arms and a local spot on my lower spin and dry mouth. 10 days later I was in Bangkok, I still had these strange feelings but my hands were shaking so much that I decided to start my Malaria medication just to be on the safe side I thought, since during my time in Malaysia I had travel to the lower and more forest parts of Malaysia. Now a month later I am still sweating while sleeping but it’s not every night and my neck also feels warm most of the time and sometimes shaking hands. History: My mom is diabetic and during my time in Kuala Lumpur I did share food and drinking glasses with friends’ form Malaysia which I know is not always the smartest thing to do! I have been checking for fever through oral and keep getting around 36.6 C and my weight seems steady too. But this whole experience makes my head spin and I feel like I am not my self. more

Resolved Question: 30% of alien workers income goes back to Mexico-What % of African American's income goes to aid Africa poverty

By Olusegun Obasanjo - (The writer is the President of Nigeria) "In this year, when so much energy has been focused on the campaign to Make Poverty History and the Commission for Africa, we should remember that hunger and malnutrition continue to kill more people than HIV/Aids, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Food is the stuff of life. Without it, free trade, debt relief and poverty alleviation will mean little to the millions of African farmers who till the soil and herd their goats far from the benevolent gaze of the developed world." With the African - Americans being aware of the poverty in Africa does anyone know what percent of the working African - American's income is voluntarily sent by them to help with the high level of poverty in their root country. Resolved Question: You be the doctor redux--Diagnose this?

Here's a chance for non-doctors to play doctor without killing any patients. Real doctors please don't answer unless it's been a day or so and no one else has. I'm taking the basis for this example from a medical journal I was reading recently, but I can't track down the source, darn it. I thought it was an easy diagnosis when I ran across it, but it's something we don't usually think about. Your patient immigrated with her husband from Nigeria three years ago. As a child she was treated for P. ovale malaria, otherwise her medical history is unremarkable. Currently she has several patches of lightened skin on her back and shoulders. They developed slowly, and she came in today because she noticed that the sensation is dulled, at first to temperature and now in some she can't even feel pain. What is the diagnosis? For best answer, say what version of the disorder this is and what medication can be used to treat it that had disastrous effects when used for a different condition. more

Resolved Question: Was the mosquito "intelligently designed?"?

Consider the lowly mosquito. An incredible nuisance to humans at best. But this extraordinarily efficient feeding and breeding machine also spreads malaria, probably the deadlest disease in human history, killing hundreds of millions of people over time. According to evolutionary biologists, mosquitos have been around for 170 million years virtually unchanged (with apologies to you "young earthers." For you, let's just say that mosquitos have made quite an impact in the world's 6000 year history [sic.]). Anyway, my question is do you believe that mosquitos were "intelligently designed?" If so, was that God's intent, to create a creature that causes so much death amongst humans? If you're one to believe that only humans were "intelligently designed," than why didn't God make them immune to malaria? Such a little thing would have kept so many alive. One of the answerers said: "Man has brought sin, death, disease and many other problems upon himself through disobedience and rebellion." Well I guess God has chosen to focus his "wrath" for man's wayward ways on the African Continent since Africans disportionately die from war, poverty disease and starvation. Does that mean that God likes Western Europeans and Americans more? more
