Open Question: Why do my joints hurt:S?

I'm 16 (last monday) and my joints in my fingers and wrists really hurt a lot of the time but espechially on the computer even after 1 minute literally, I take breaks and stretch my joints reguarly but they still hurt badly, I had a blood test done a few months ago (for anorexia complications) luckily so im not sure if that will show RSI or joint problems, also this was done before I got any pain in the joints. Also my knee joints hurt and sometimes my ankles, when i went to the hospital for purple swelling on the toes the dr I saw thought I had rheumatoid arthritis but when I saw another and she said they were chill blains (these were on my toe joints) :S there is no history in my family of rheumatoid arthritis either, although the swelling isn't as bad they are still purple this is since Christmas. My joints arent usually swollen although they sometimes are. So I'm confused also my mom might have Osteoarthritis she went to hospital today but the results come in a week. .The pain is getting worse, please dont tell me to go to the dr I was just wondering what it could be and if it is woth going. thanks to any answers =]I can crack most of my joints and my hips and spine can be sore. more

Resolved Question: Neurosurgeon says neck brace, Chiro says no.?

Over a year ago, woke up with very stiff neck, waited for 2 weeks to see doc. He gave me an MRI of the spine, the results: 2 herniated discs, 2 bulging discs, minimal osteoarthritis, nerve root damage, degenerative disc disease, and joint disease. My neck, shoulder (traps), arm hurt pretty bad, and numbness/tingling in my hand/fingers. Have had 1 epidural, pain meds. June 1st (this year) started seeing my chiropractor 3 x week. Anyway had an appt. with my neurosurgeon Monday, he wants me to get fitted for a neck brace (didn't say for how long). Told my chiro and he is against it, doesn't understand why he would do that. I need the rom (range of motion), not stiffen me back up. Also, the neuro. is doing another epidural injection July 8th. So, if you've had any similar problems or had to wear a brace because of a diagnosis, I would like to hear your point of view, or let me know if it does/would help. I'm 39, USED to be healthy! Thanks and sorry for the long details.....At the chiro's appt., I get the decompression machine, proadjuster, e-stim, and ultrasound. No physical cracking. more

Voting Question: Please help read MRI on lower lumbar/hip?

I miscategorized this question earlier - so I am re-posting in a new area. I just got an independent MRI on my back/hip because I was having severe pain in my left hip when I sat. I went to the Dr. and they said it was a muscle strain, I took the medication that they recommended and nothing help. I decided to get an independent MRI done to see what the results would be without my Dr.'s opinion (I do not have the greatest relationship with my PCP). Here are the results: Mild osteoarthritis of the symphysis pubis joint. Mild scoliosis of the lower lumbar spine with convexity to the right. Mild osteophytic spurring along the superior aspect of the symphasis pubis joint. I know I need to take this to a specialist to get treated, but who do I see?Thank you for all of the suggestions so far. I do see a great chiropractor now and he says that he will work on the scoliosis for me. He is the one that actually recommended for me to get a MRI. more

Resolved Question: Hip pain and a doctor with a speech problem. Still no firm diagnosis?

Alright. So my SO went to the ER (we live in different states) because his hips have been bothering him severely. His symptoms are: -Joint pain, sometimes on the outside, sometimes on the inside front of his hip joint -Pain when walking or running -Pain when rotating the hip, such as up, down, around. -Improves with rest, aggravates quickly with activity He didn't catch what the ER doctor said, saying something about "ci-something" but he wasn't clear and didn't come back afterward. I don't think it's a SI Joint Injury, because that's towards the upper back of the pelvic girdle. It was also not sciatica. I was thinking osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis, but none of those descriptions sound familiar to him per what the doctor said (really frustrated that I couldn't be there to decipher the doctor jargon). Any ideas to what it could be? I need to know what he has so that I can counsel him on what the treatment options are and to know what's going on. I really don't think it's arthritis because he's 21. He's in the army though and does a lot of physical activity. He can't see another doctor, he doesn't have an current health insurance till next fall. He's in the reserve, at the moment. The army doesn't have a record of his hip pains at the moment. He can request his chart from the ER? more

Resolved Question: What all do I need to fix in this story?

This research report is getting graded on sentence fluency, organization and conventions. I don't like the part about the serious effects.. its too long, but i need some ideas about what to do with it. Could you please proofread this and make changes where needed? Ibuprofen Have you thought about the effects ibuprofen can have on you? Not only are the long-term effects startling, but some of the short-term ones are as well. Understanding what ibuprofen is and how it works increases your knowledge of the risks you take every time you use ibuprofen. Ibuprofen comes from a group of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (http://www.drugs.com/ubuprofen.html). NSAIDs relieve pain and inflammation due to damage done to muscles, ligaments, and joints. It is a nonopid analgesic. This means you have insensibility to pain without the loss of consciousness (Goldmann 894). Ibuprofen is used for many things. It can be used to relieve pain from surgical or dental work (http://www.bio-medicine.org/medicine-news/ Use-of-Ibuprofen-Safe-for-Short-Periods-5917-v). People with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and gouty arthritis often use ibuprofen as a pain reliever. Often it is used to reduce fever, headaches, muscle aches, common cold, toothaches, and backaches. It is also used for inflammation. Ibuprofen can help reduce swelling and tenderness (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682159.html). You may be wondering how this drug works. When your tissue is damaged your body naturally releases hormones called prostaglandins. These hormones are your body’s way of telling you something is wrong. Prostaglandins are what cause fevers, inflammation and pain. They cause the blood vessels to widen and leak fluid. White blood cells then move into the tissue. This makes the area red and swollen. When you take ibuprofen it stops your body’s production of prostaglandins, thereby reducing the pain and inflammation. The blood vessels return to normal, and the swelling and redness decreases (Goldmann 895) (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682159.html). This medication, due to the way it works, can actually cause more problems then you had before. There are both common side effects and serious side effects. It is important to know which are which. Common side effects aren’t something you need to worry too much about. These include: upset stomach, mild heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas, dizziness, headache, nervousness, skin itching or rash, blurred vision, and ringing in your ears. Serious side effects include: chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, swelling or rapid weight gain, nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, jaundice, which is yellowing of the skin or eyes, sore throat, headache with a severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness, and neck stiffness, chills, increased sensitivity to light, purple spots on the skin and/or seizures. If you experience serious side effects, you should stop taking this medication immediately and seek medical attention or call your doctor as soon as possible. Talk to your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effects (http://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html). When ibuprofen is used for long periods of time, it can have serious side effects on your stomach and intestines. Bleeding and perforation, the forming of a hole, can occur in your stomach lining with long use. Also using it for long periods of times it can increase your risk of a heart attack and circulation problems. Strokes and even death can occur due to the use of ibuprofen. The longer you use ibuprofen, the higher your risks become (http://www.healthline.com/multumcontent/ibuprofen) (http://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html). It has been proven that when ibuprofen is used for a short period of time, less then a year, it is safe. Although, when used for a long period of time, more than a year, it can be very harmful. You should limit smoking and alcohol consumption during use of ibuprofen. Also, using this drug as recommended increases its safety. The smallest effective dose should be used to treat your pain and swelling (http://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html) (http://www.bio-medicine.org/medicine-news/Use-of-Ibuprofen-Safe-for-Short-Periods-5917-v) Ibuprofen, when used correctly, can be a very affective and useful drug. On the flip side, if overused, it can be harmful. Understanding what ibuprofen is and how it works increases your knowledge of the risks you take every time you use ibuprofen. Next time you have a minor headache maybe you will rethink taking unnecessary medication. more

Resolved Question: What else can i do about osteoarthritis?

I have burning sensation in the middle of my back at the belt line. I was diagnosed with from the pain management doctor that read my mri. Which resulted from a back injury on a previous job they said. And yes this is a Workman's Comp case. I'm down to the last on my case. Settlement is in June with the ins company and my lawyer. Resolved Question: I am going to make an appointment with a pain specialist?

what should I expect? I have had chronic pain for 10 years of my sacroiliac joint. I have documented osteoarthritis and bone spurring in this joint. I had tried acupuincture, physical therapy 3 times, chiropactic, medications, and I take lidocaine patches every day. This feels like my last resort.... what do you think he will do... my PCP is "afaid" to prescribe me real pain meds... but I am living in pain ALL the time and do not feel as if I can have a normal life. I must mention I am only 34 and have had this for 10 years. What should I expect?I have had 3 shots in a year's time in the joint. The last one I had was 3 weeks ago and it's almost worn off already... I have done everything... which is the reason this is my "last" resort more

Resolved Question: What could be wrong with my shoulder?

Im depserately trying to figure out on my own what is wrong with my shoulders before I go see an ortheopedic surgeon tomorrow. Symptoms: Pain, at rest and moving Some weakness, usually with overhead activities Cracking, grinding, popping. Excessively. Mobility seems good, but Im double jointed... Tingling in hands at times Trouble sleeping due to pain, wakes me up at night. From what Ive found out so far, the only cause of cracking and grinding like mine is osteoarthritis, the bone grinding on bone. But Im only 27, and it seems to only occur in older people. Plus, they took and x-ray that they said came out negative (for what, I dont know). Does anyone have experience in this and give me an idea of what it could be? Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: Anyone had their spine fused?

But I still have some not so bad days (although the majority sucks), my sex life is nil because I suffer for days after. So have you and what did it do for you??That sucks. more

Resolved Question: I have pain... and no end in sight.?

OK, so I've got pains I can't explain... the problem is that I've been to countless doctors and have been unable to get a satisfactory diagnosis. The pain seems to be everywhere... when I am seated in certain positions... I feel it in my hips and in my mid back. When I walk or stand for any length of time... the pain is lower now... like my lumbar area... and in my neck... I also have numbness and heat in my hands (like arthritis)... tingling in my chest... numbness, tingling and heat in my legs. I have pains in my chest too... though I think that might just be panic and fear over these pains.... I don't know. I've been given pain meds and muscle relaxants which work... but then I run out and I've been unable to find a doctor who is willing to give me an ongoing prescription. I've gone to acupuncturists, chiropractors, pain management centers, walk in clinics.... I've spent THOUSANDS, all to no avail. I have also invested in a Temper-pedic mattress, weekly massage, a hot tub... and still I am plagued by pain. Further, as this is impacting both my mood and my ability to think clearly, I've spiraled into a deep depression where I feel absolutely certain I am going to die... and soon. The fear of this and worry over my family is keeping me up at night... I find myself looking up my symptoms and finding the causes ranging from anything from a weakened immune system to lung cancer to leukemia. So naturally I'm terrified. The other thing is that I'm uninsured and insurable (due to my weight... I'm 315lbs, and the fact that I'm self employed)... and because I'm unable to really exercise.... so it's getting worse... not better. I had a seated MRI in January... I think some of my problems are only clear when I'm standing since that's when I'm in pain. According to the MRI (we didn't do the lumbar), I have I have at least three blown discs... T-10 to T11, T-11 to T-12 and T-12 to L-1.... that plus macular degeneration of the discs is causing inflammation and osteoarthritis symptoms.... I'm only 38... yet apparently I have the spine of a 70 year old. I recently paid $3000 OOP for facet injections... a mixture of steroids and Novocaine... and I've gotten some minor relief.... but I'm still in alot of pain and it's not getting better. My hands are on fire most of the time. To be honest, I'm not convinced the pain I'm in is all in my back.... I feel chest pains and hip pains too... I've been told it's all related... but part of me says fibromyalgia, part of me says it's depression or a midlife crisis... and another part of me thinks it might be cancer, lupus, a heart condition, or even AIDS.... because all sometimes present as inflammation of the joints... and referring pain. To make matters worse, I now can't find a doctor to give me something to help the pain anymore... I've been to dozens of clinics.... the prevailing thought is that if it can't be cured with 30 days worth of flexoril and vicoden... I should be made to suffer. The last doctor I went to suggested I lose the weight.... as if that hadn't been discussed... or as if I could stand up long enough to exercise meaningfully. So guys.... what do I do?I am dieting... and I'm taking Alli... a great diet pill... it's working. I also do not have any history selling pills or avoiding treatment. The pain management clinics in my area are against giving out pain medication for some reason... they all promote alternative remedies... which don't work. How do I find a pain management clinic who is willing to prescribe drugs? more

Resolved Question: Can someone explain why a Dr. would order an additional blood test? What caused concern with the first test?

I went to a Rheumatologist two weeks ago for joint pain in my fingers. They bulge at the first joint and the fingers are starting to turn and curve. The Dr. ordered blood test and x-rays. Two weeks later I went for my follow up appointment. He ruled out thyroid, hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis and a few others, He diagnosed osteoarthritis which sounds right since my mother and sister have it. It appears he saw something that concerned him with the results. He ordered another blood test & this time included a urine sample. He mentioned something about white cell count. What concerned him about the blood test and the white cell count? Does it need to be below a certain number? He asked other questions, do I cough, have allergies, my last pap, last mammogram and colonoscopy exam to name a few. He also mentioned something about risk for heart attacks. I asked him what he was looking for. He said just trying to rule out things. He obviously saw something in the report he was concerned with. I kept pushing him for an answer. He finally said, worse case is cancer. What did he see in blood results to order additional blood and urine test to make a statement about cancer? If the white cells are abnormally low what/can this mean? more

Resolved Question: Pain managment- what works for you?

I already asked you all about Spinal Fusion, what my doctor is recommending, but I am going to wait as long as possible based on the answers I got. Since 1993 I have dealt with my back pain. I have done it all- Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Tens unit, Nerve Ablasion (for Facet Joint pain). I just had my annual MRI and my Spinal Surgeon(one of the best, Dr. James Reynolds of Seton Spine Center in Daly City CA) and he said he had bad news. It was worse than thought- now 4 bad disks, one bulging and impenjing on my nerve, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, and spondlyosis. About 3 years ago, I decided on my own to rid myself of the Class 1 & 2 opiates such as the Duragesic Patch and Oxycotin. Plus, a miriad of anti depressants and sleep aids. I figured out that Dr.s have an obligation to write out pain prescriptions if you are complaining about pain that is interfering with ones life and during a moment of clarity, realized I was inducing myself into a state of mental impairment along with my physical. So I spent a year detoxing myself off the meds and decided that I would do whatever I could to stay on only the Norco and Ibuprofen and a TENS unit at all costs. Even if it meant not leaving the house. I am trying to be proactive in my own pain managment. So here is the question. How much Norco is considered reasonable and safe? I cannot walk even an hour and I am in pain 24/7. The Norco I am taking is 1 pill 6x per day. The Norco is 325 ml of Aceteminophen. Unfortunately, my medication tolerance is raised so after being on THIS prescription for 5 months, and Norco for about 18 months total. I need to do something. Is asking my doctor for 8 per day an okay thing? I know he will give it to me, but I want to know if any other person in the med field or someone who takes this much can tell me what they think. Also, I take 800 ml of Ibuprofen 3 times per day. I see my doctor tomorrow but I don't want him to just give it to me without doing a bit of my own research. I hope you can appreciate my fear after being on so many opiates for so long and the very long year it took to get me off.Sorry, Norco 10/325- didn't know there were different strengths? Are there? more

Resolved Question: I take medication for chronic pain and..?

take several meds for chronic pain. Resolved Question: Have you ever had your lower spine fused?

My doctor told me that my 4 lower discs need to be fused however, he doesn't like to perform the procedure until I can absolutely not take the pain anymore and my quality of life sucks. It is my call as to when. Just so you all know, I have had degenerative disc disease 1993, I have osteoarthritis in my spine, poor facet joints so disc replacment isn't an option. I have compressed disc that is leaking (not ruptured as of yet). I have already had many 2nd and 3rd opinions. I just need to know if you have had this procedure and how well it worked and if you would have it again knowing what you know now. I don't want to hear about therapy first, etc. because I have been doing that for many, many years. more

Resolved Question: Ankle fusion problems!!!?

I had my right ankle fused almost 3 years ago due to osteoarthritis. They cut about 2 inches of my fibula bone up from the ankle joint. Then i had my tibia screwed to the talus with the use of 2 screws & 1 staple. All went well with the operation & recovery. About 1 year ago i started feeling pain again in the area of where the fusion was done.I started on my tablets again & the pain subsided and I went on with my day to day duties. After a couple of months I noticed that my ankle started to get a curve/bow in it (The ankle was getting closer to the ground on the inside of my foot). so I went and got a x-ray & went back to the doctor that performed the operation. He said that the osteoarthritis had spread & one of the bones under the fusion was almost gone. He suggested I go & get Orthotics made to try and slow the process down & get as much time as i can out of it before another operation. (He was hoping to get 1 year?) The pain in my ankle is getting worse & the medication is not working the best. I have got to see the doctor in a couple of weeks to to see what can been done? Don't know if anyone else has had or knows someone with the same or similar problems & what they had done to fix the problem?  more

Resolved Question: Arthritis os something else?

I was diagnosed a few years back with osteoarthritis but i find my aching is not only in my joints but all through my bones its extremly painful for me and i also find im weaker in the limb at that time n usually last a day to a few days. I also get little sharp pains for no reason all over my body at different times, sometimes its in my foot others times a finger, ect. Is this still consistant with arthritis or could it be something else?Super helpful thanks a ton! The only thing is a recently had a baby and i am breast feeding so its a guessing game on what will or wont give him terrible gas, i think ill get some blood work up done to see if theres something off. Ive has this for about ten years nowthats about how im feeling, i can barelly pick up my son cause my arm hurts so bad and it feels so weak and stairs can be killer at times. Ive mentioned to doctors before about Fibor but nothing has come out of it. Ill have to push for more results i guess lol more

Resolved Question: Pain in the joints of my fingers?

I use the computer a lot, often several hours a day (whether it's typing for school work or playing video games) which of course means lots of pressure on the joints of my fingers. For the past year or so, after extended use, I get a lot of pain in the joints of my fingers (especially the distal ones, closest to my finger tips). What could this indicate? I'm 21 years old, so I'm hoping it isn't osteoarthritis, but who knows. Should I see a doctor about this? Occasionally I will take an NSAID such as ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation, but I try not to do that much because of the contraindications of ulcers. I know the obvious thing to do is lay back on using the computer but that's difficult to do nowadays, especially considering my lifestyle. I used to study by typing things repeatedly for memorization, but I've cut back on that completely. I still play video games though, so that often means holding keys down or tapping them repeatedly. Does anyone have a suggestion or an idea of the etiology. The most obvious thing seems wear and tear, but is there anything specifically I can do to alleviate the symptoms? I don't want to have zero cartilage in my fingers by the age of 25! It's concerning because I do know others who use the computer far more than I do (e.g. play same games more than me) and they have no similar complaints. Just for more info, it is often a cold type pain and goes away within an hour or two after using the computer. Thanks! Also, what kind of doctor would I see? more

Resolved Question: Where you can you go if our doctor isn't telling you answers?

I went to my GP yesterday to speak about my lower back, hips (dislocated as a child), knee and other joint pains. I had previously been told I was suffering from Osteoarthritis in my knees as they get sore and click and grind. I have now been told its Chondromalacia. Who do I believe? Wasn't given any answers about my hips and have been recommended physio for my back. I am in pain every day and don't know why and am only 30! Where can I get answers? more

Resolved Question: Fibromyalga, Do you have it??

My Rheumatologist first thought I had Rheumatoid arthritis, then osteoarthritis, finally fibromyalga. This was after five years of being sick. In April I read an article about ASPARTAME allergy. My husband is Diabetic, so we would have a sugar free Fudgecycle every evening (it contains aspartame.) Well after getting the flu I stopped the fudgecyles. Amazingly enough ALL PAIN LEFT ME. I now pay close attention to what sweeteners are in foods and am 95% pain free. In the previous five years my knees had been so bad that I could barely walk. Then my wrists became so bad that I had to hold them over my head for the pain to ease. Then the total fatigue and body aches, then it hit my thumb joints and mid and low spine. I had been on Vicodin daily for 5 years and now am without anything except Excedrin occassionally. Three days off any aspartame and the pain was gone. What is left is my regular age related discomfort. If I do slip up and eat something with Aspartame in it my thumb joint and elbow joint will begin to hurt again. But in a day or two it is gone again. Hopefully this might help someone else, maybe. Well I hate to admit my age but I am 67. more

Resolved Question: Treating Osteoarthritis and Osteosclerosis in dog 2 years and under? What are the possible causes?

This guy is an 18m/o Border Collie, he came to me 3 weeks ago as a shelter pull. He was a stray with no known history, he had pneumonia, was 15lbs under weight and not eating, he was unable to sit and showed L Rear hip/leg swelling and pain to the touch for the first 3 days, 3 weeks later he is able to sit, run and jump on furniture comfortably. He was officially diagnosed with early stage Osteoarthritis and Osteosclerosis today. So far, I have been treating it with a good protein rich non-grain/corn diet, joint supplements (starting today), regular informal massages and a healthy weight maintenance program. My ideas so far for causes are; early prolonged nourishment, genetic/congenital, hindered circulation or auto-immune. Any details would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Sufferers of Arthritis - help RA and OA

Arthritis in the fingers, hips, knees and feet I have rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, teh RA is serum negative. What I would like help on is this.... I appreciate the joints feeling sore but why do my hands fail to grip? Why pains down the thigh from hip to knee as well as the hip and knee? Why is the muscle at the back of the toes getting harder and less elastic and now the toes are sitting on it? Any help welcome. I do not see a rheumatologist and was told by one in 1996 that he did not want to see me as I could not take any of his tablets. [I am allergic to salicylates, lactose etc] the only pain killer I can have is 250mgs of paracetamol about every 6 to 8 hours and it is not enough. I do take many supplements. [am an ND] Any help welcome, exercise, pain killers, reassurance desperately needed. By the way it was diagnosed in 1982, proved in 1994 and 1996. Seeing the GP Wednesday as I feel my thyoxine at 100mcgs is low. I also have the beginnings of osteoporosis and am coeliac and have many other allergies. Absolutely allergic to wheat, dairy, alcohol, nuts, herbs, spices, and on a low fat diet. Do take enzyme tablets to be able to have a reasonable diet these are on prescription. Cod liver and vinegar are out with me. Sorry. That is why I qualified in ND and PhD in immunology but it is the pains that I need reasurrance on...anyone get them like me? Resolved Question: Drug Addiction & Cronic Pain?

Been w/this guy 10yrs he had a bad cocaine problem. He moved out 4yrs ago & we've been off & on since. He got busted 8mths ago & had no choice(due to probation) but to get clean, attend meetings & all the things that go w/being in recovery. I need advice. Live in pain & be with him or end it. See..I have a cronic pain. It began as TMJ & after many years got worse now I have osteoarthritis in left jaw joint/bone on bone extremely painful to do anything even eat. For yrs I lived in pain 24/7 cuz I was to scared to ask for help thinking I'd be labeIed a drug seeker. Well in 2005 I sought help & had an MRI the Dr. couldn't believe I lived with that pain so long. I got put on low doses of narcotics... fast forward to today & a high tolerance. I take 60mg Oxycontin 3xday & (2) 5mg Oxycodone 3xday for breakthrough. I also take Feldene/Zanaflex & Amitriptyine. My pain is now 80% controlled but cuz my man is now off coke he wants me off the narcotics or else it's over for us. Any advice? He did say he would be willing to hold my bottle and dish out my meds everyday cuz he is convinced I have an addiction myself. He also says that I'm in denial about my addiction and that I need to wake up and realize this. Honestly though if I stop taking them I will get sick but I think my body is just used to them and it's tolerance. I don't take them to get high and don't wake up with pills on my mind. He says there is no difference between tolerance & addiction. Is that true? I don't know what to think or do cuz I do love him and want to be with him but I also know I can't go back to the level of pain I used to live with. I am more scared of the pain than I am about withdrawls if I decide to stop taking them.I take them as directed but he says he can't be with anyone who is "using" and either I stop or we stop. He did say that if we stay together & I stay on my meds then he'll start using coke & crack again. Nice huh? 10yrs down the drain cuz he got busted with drugs. He did not stop cuz he wanted to he was forced to stop. He'd still be doing it had he not gotten busted. I can't believe he wants me to liv ein pain. He tells me to take Aleve/Advil/Tylenol etc etc and that my pain can't be that bad that I need such strong meds. I get scripts from 1 Dr & get drug tested constantly so the Dr would know if I was taking more or less than I should. He wants me to give him my bottles so he can see what exactly I take I told him I'd show him the bottles but he wants all the pills in them so he can count them I guess. What the hell I'm 38yr old and being treated like a little kid & a piece of crap just because he's an addict then I must be one too cuz of the meds I take everyday. more

Resolved Question: Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) and pain therapy?

Our 7 year old cocker spaniel, Bismark, is plagued by what was determined last year to be degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis). The x-rays show that the cartlidge in his knees is almost completely gone. He has his good and his bad days, but lately, more bad than good. Originally, our vet prescribed him 30 days of an anti-inflamatory and told us to give him glucosamine on daily basis. He won't treat with pain meds for long periods, but the gloucasamine hasn't improved his mobility at all. Should I start over with a new vet (we've been taking our 4 dogs to our current vet for 9 years) or should I simply try to order the pain meds online (I think it was Rimadyl)? Do you have any suggestions for other forms of pain management? more
